Help us keep our doors open!

Today, Dévai Fogadó stands at a critical turning point. Without additional funding, the center will be forced to close. This would mean much more than the loss of a social service. A community center built over years of dedicated work would disappear; trusted relationships would be broken; the network of professionals and volunteers supporting refugee families would dissolve; and the social embeddedness we have built in one of Budapest’s most diverse neighborhoods would be lost.
We believe it is far easier to preserve a functioning institution than to rebuild it later. Today, Dévai Fogadó is much more than a support service. It is a community infrastructure that provides safety, guidance, and human connection to hundreds of refugee families.

We Help Those Fleeing War to Survive and Start a New Life

Currently, millions in Ukraine are suffering from the horrors of war. Families, elderly people, and young individuals alike are forced to leave their homes to escape the conflict-affected areas. This situation is extremely difficult for those affected, who must rebuild their entire lives from scratch.
We support their social integration by assisting them in accessing education, the labor market, healthcare, mental health services, and social welfare.

People fleeing the war in Ukraine can receive food packages, hygiene supplies, baby items, diapers, and donated goods such as clothing, toys, kitchen equipment, strollers, school supplies, and other household or sports items.

We are able to support up to 200 vulnerable Ukrainian refugee families at a time. Those we cannot assist regularly can be placed on a waiting list.

In addition to providing basic necessities, we offer community and individual social support, job search assistance, community and children’s programs, Ukrainian–Hungarian–English language courses, psychological counseling, and a playroom for families who come to us.

We warmly welcome volunteer groups. We especially need help with sorting the large volume of incoming donated items, but we also appreciate support with interpretation and helping with children’s programs.

Donation warehouse

Our donation warehouse has been serving refugees and Hungarians in need since 2015. There is a great need for kitchen utensils, but in fact, any item in good condition will find a home! Refugees have to equip a new household from almost nothing, they don’t even have a spoon. They can use everything to start their lives!

The selection of donations is a constant task – we are looking for volunteers who can come regularly. It is also a great help if someone can come once a month for two hours, the main thing is regularity.

You can also join in helping refugees by organizing collections. You can help with targeted collections at school, work, church, friends, or family.

The head of the donation warehouse: Nóra Lengyel, phone number: +36203435442

Our donation warehouse accepts: clothes, shoes, baby items, maternity clothes, kitchen utensils, toys, school supplies, and home textiles.
